787 Systems Flashcards
Ch 15 - Windshear Systems
GPWS
- below 1500’ immediate windshear alert when excessive downdraft or tailwind

Noise Abatement Profiles
NADP 2 (std)
- Thrust reduction and cleanup @ 1000’
- Vref30 + 80 to 3000’
NADP 1
- Thrust reduction @ 1000’ (ICAO A 1500’)
- Cleanup @ 3000’
Ch 7
Engine Autostart Protection when
On Ground
- hot start
- loss of 2 starters
- no N1
- no oil pressure
- hung start
- compressor stall
(Maximum 3 starts)
Ch 9
Flaps/Slats
- Primary/Secondary/Alternate modes
- Primary uses centre hydraulic system
- Secondary uses hydraulic and/or electric systems
Ch 10
PFD Indications
- Trend vector 10 seconds
- IAS to Mach @ .84M
- Mach to IAS @ 310kts
- Red Bricks = Vmo/Mmo or flap speed
- High speed amber band = manouvre margin to high speed buffet
- Thrust assymetry indicated when low speed and asymmetry detected. Normally below stick shaker.
- Pitch Limit Indicator = pitch angle where stall warning/stick shaker will operate. Shows when flaps not up or IAS near stick shaker speed.
- Altitude Trend Vector = 6 seconds
- Landing Altitude Indications when 400nm from departure or half way to destination
Ch 10
PFD Mini Map
- Track up (white line)
- Current heading (white triangle)
- Selected heading (amber triangle)
- always 20 mn scale
Ch 15
Crew Alert System Inhibits (FCOM 15.20.36)
- Master caution + sound alerts inhibited on ground + FCS cutoff
- Engine start inhibits from engine start to START
- Status cue inhibits from engine start to cruise altitude or 30 minutes after takeoff or 1 engine shutdown
- Master Caution + EICAS Advisories inhibited after 80kts to 400’ RA or 20 seconds after liftoff. If RTO after 80kts inhibited down to 75 kts
- All coms except CABIN ALERT inhibited from 1 eng T/O thrust to 400’/20 seconds
- Master Warning inhibited from V1 or rotate to 400’ or 25 seconds after inhibit began
Ch 7
Climb Thrust Derate
Climb 1
- 10% derate to 25 000’ then increase linear to 33 000’
Climb 2
- 20% derate to 25 000’ then increase linear to 33 000’
Ch 7
Idle Thrust
- Min idle on ground
- Approach Idle only in flight with F25 or F30. Maintained for 5 sec after TD or reversers deployed. Greater thrust.
- Icing Idle when EAI on
- Ice Crystal Anti-ice above 30 000’ for at least 30 min if ICI detected. ICA terminates if A/C descends below 28 500’
Ch 7
EEC Modes
Normal Mode and Alternate Mode
- Alternate Soft mode thrust doesn’t change. A/T remains engaged.
- Thrust protection not provided in alternate mode.
EEC Provides
- N2 overspeed protection
- Thrust ramping during takeoff. Max thrust may not be available until reaching 65 kts
- Thrust Control Malfunction Accommodation shuts down engine on ground when thrust idle and eng not decelerating
- Thrust Asymmetry Protection limts thrust on operating engine when airspeed decreases below V2 on takeoff or Vref on go-around
Ch 10 - Nav Display Indications
- groundspeed large under 30kts small above
- TAS above 100 kts
- Wind shown above 100 kts G/S if wind greater than 5 kts
- Trend vector 30/60/90 seconds based on bank angle + G/S
- Dynamic arc use G/S + V/S to calculate MCP altitude
Ch 10 - VSD Indications
- Full format ND = 2 x ND scale
- green dot on vert path vector if current IAS >5kts above FMC or MCP speed
- “VSD Route Corridor” when LNAV/VNAV armed + inside RNP limits
- “VSD Track Corridor” when no LNAV or outside RNP
- VSD corridor 2 x RNP to max 10 nm
- ILS/FMC glidepath dashed white line 10 nm long
- 3 degree ref line dashed blue line when no glideslope or FMC path
- decision gate as @ 1000’ and 500’
- MAP route cyan before MAP then magenta after MAP or go-around
Ch 10 - Air Data System
- provides alt/IAS/Mach/TAT
- 3 pitot + 6 static + 2 AoA + 1 TAT
- Centre pitot/static to ISFD
- IRS components 2 IRU + 2 AHRU
- IRS allignment takes from 7 -17 minutes
Ch 11 - NAVRAD tuning
- ILS auto tuned when less than 50nm to T/D or 150nm to RW threshold or transitions to descent mode and approach selected in active route
- ILS inhibited for 10 minutes after T/O
