Detail drawings
If the words ,assembly’ or ,installation’ do not appear then it is a detail drawing.
Supplies all the information required to construct every part.
Do not show location, position or fastening method
Assembly drawings
A multiple piece item that can be disassembled into its components.
Depict the relationship between two or more parts.
Has a BOM
Installation drawings
Describes exactly where certain parts or assemblies are to be permanently fixed to an aircraft.
Dimensions are only given to adjustments necessary
Sectional drawings
Used when it is necessary to show a parts internal construction or shape
4 types
- revolved
- removed
- complete section
- half section.

Schematic drawings
First angle
Each view represents the side of the object that is remote from it in the adjacent view
Third angle
Each view represents the side of the object that is nearest to it in the adjacent view.
Third angle is prefered in the uk and US
Isometric projection
Tilts the drawing forward so that portions of all 3 views can be seen in the same plane.
30 degrees to drawing plane.
Oblique projection
One object face is parallel to the drawing plane
What do break lines indicate
That a portion f the object is not shown on the drawing.
Surface texture
A measured of smoothness of the surface finish
Looks like an upside down kite
No surface finish requirements symbol looks like a tick with a ball in it
Title block in drawings
Generally lower right corner
Do not follow a standard layout.
Contain:
- drawing number
- number of part/assembly
- scale
- the date
- name of firm
- name of drafter
Revision block on drawings
Upper right corner.
Must always be checked.
Raise of issue things. E.g. issue 1, issue 2 etc
