7.3.1/ noel Flashcards
atmoshpere
definiton
the enveolpe of gases surrounding the earth or another planet
Altitude
definton he height of an object or point in relation to sea level or ground level.
“flight data including airspeed and altitude”
Density,
defniton a measure of the amount of information on a storage medium (tape or disk). For magnetic tape it is the amount of information recorded per unit length of tape (bits per inch or millimeter); for a disk, a fixed number of bits per sector, sectors per track, and tracks per disk.
noun: packing density; plural noun: packing densities
“chip density doubles every eighteen months”
Troposphere
defintion
Image result for definition of troposphere
The troposphere is the lowest layer of Earth’s atmosphere. Most of the mass (about 75-80%) of the atmosphere is in the troposphere. Most types of clouds are found in the troposphere, and almost all weather occurs within this layer.
Stratosphere,
definition the layer of the earth’s atmosphere above the troposphere, extending to about 32 miles (50 km) above the earth’s surface (the lower boundary of the mesosphere).
Mesosphere,
defintion the region of the earth’s atmosphere above the stratosphere and below the thermosphere, between about 30 and 50 miles (50 and 80 km) in altitude.
Thermosphere
definition he region of the atmosphere above the mesosphere and below the height at which the atmosphere ceases to have the properties of a continuous medium. The thermosphere is characterized throughout by an increase in temperature with height.
Exosphere,
defintion The Exosphere is the uppermost region of the Earth’s atmosphere and has no clear upper boundary since it gradually fades into outer space. NASA. The exosphere is the uppermost region of Earth’s atmosphere as it gradually fades into the vacuum of space.
Temperature,
definiton the degree or intensity of heat present in a substance or object, especially as expressed according to a comparative scale and shown by a thermometer or perceived by touch.
the degree of internal heat of a person’s body.
“I’ll take her temperature”
Nitrogen
defintion the chemical element of atomic number 7, a colorless, odorless unreactive gas that forms about 78 percent of the earth’s atmosphere. Liquid nitrogen (made by distilling liquid air) boils at 77.4 kelvins (−195.8°C) and is used as a coolant.
Carbon
defintion the chemical element of atomic number 6, a nonmetal which has two main forms (diamond and graphite) and which also occurs in impure form in charcoal, soot, and coal.
Oxygen,
defintion
a colorless, odorless reactive gas, the chemical element of atomic number 8 and the life-supporting component of the air.
altitude,
defintion the height of an object or point in relation to sea level or ground level.
“flight data including airspeed and altitude”
air pressure
defintion The air around you has weight, and it presses against everything it touches. That pressure is called atmospheric pressure, or air pressure. It is the force exerted on a surface by the air above it as gravity pulls it to Earth. Atmospheric pressure is commonly measured with a barometer.May 19, 2022
concentration
defintion Air pollutant concentrations, as measured or as calculated by air pollution dispersion modeling, must often be converted or corrected to be expressed as .
