7.3 Focus on Environment in Intervention Flashcards
behavior modification is ….
traditional, high structure, clinician directed (goals and specific responses are predetermined but he clinician)
techniques with behavior modification influence
drill exercises - using elected imitation and shaping
modeling - using third person model (parent, doll, puppet) and encourage the child to talk like them
hybrid intervention approaches are…
child-directed set up but with more directive approaches incorporated
examples of techniques with hybrid influence are
- clinician maintaining control but tempting the child to spontaneously produce target in obligatory contexts
- clinician gives multiple examples of the target forms in context in hope the child will start using them
- clinician gives expansions on what the child produces
what is milieu teaching?
it is a hybrid intervention
parent involvement; teaching parent how the interaction should go with he child; putting toys up on the shelf so that the child has to initiate
what is script play?
reducing the cognitive load of language by embedding it in the context of familiar routines (ex. birthday party)
once the child knows the routine well you can add something random or unexpected to get a reaction.
what is the continuum of naturalness in intervention?
child directed (most natural) - hybrid - clinician directed (least natural)
