What is the purpose of social media?
Social media platforms allow users to have conversations, share information and create web content.
What must you be aware of when using social media?
Age restrictions - they are there to protect you.
What should you include in your social media profile?
Generalised information that cannot specifically identify you as an individual or where you live.
What is cyberbullying?
The use of technology to bully a person by sending messages of an intimidating or threatening nature.
Why is cyberbullying wrong?
Cyberbullying is intentional and harmful, and unlike traditional bullying it can be 24/7 and can have a massive impact on the mental health of the victim as they read and reread hurtful messages.
What action should be taken when you are being cyberbullied or know someone who is being cyberbullied?
Stop it - Block it - Report it.
What is a digital footprint?
A digital footprint is the trail you leave behind on the website and searches you have been on.
Why is a digital footprint important?
It never goes away - anything you do on the internet can be traced back to you.
How can you maintain a positive digital footprint?
Never like or join in hurtful conversations and post only positive experiences, e.g. charity activities etc.
What is computer malware?
Malicious software designed to cause harm to computer systems.
What are the most common types of malware?
Worms, viruses, Trojans and ransomware - However, they can be stopped with up-to-date anti-virus software.
What is social engineering?
Social engineering is where the hacker tricks the user into giving their private information out, because they trust the hacker is the real person they are pretending to be.
What is anti-virus software?
Anti-virus software recognises the signature code of computer viruses, e.g. the program code, and stops, quarantines and deletes it so that it can do no further harm to the computer system. Anti-virus software needs to be updated regularly.
