7.1.4 adaptations Flashcards
types of adaptations
structural, behavioural or functional
what is meant by structural adaptation
physical feature takes place for them to adapt (white polar bears for camouflage)
what is meant by behavioural adaptation
the way an organism behaves (rabbits dig burrows to raise offspring)
adaptations for animals in cold environments
A thick layer of fat (seal blubber) or fur (polar bears) insulates against the cold
These are examples of structural adaptations
adaptations for desert regions
have concentrated urine (functional), awake early when its cool (behavioural), increase surface area eg elephants ears (structural)
what is meant by functional adaptation
biological process within organism (snake produce venom)
