What’s justice
Means fairness, making right and fair a situation
religion is meant to bring justice to to the world

Has to be the aim and goal of all people, live in harmony and without fear
What’s reconciliation
Most religious people will be involved. Forgiving, bringing opposing side together to resolve issues
What’s forgiveness
This is the belief we should able to move to a relationship forward
What is conflict
Before the actual fighting there’s conflict, is a disagreement; armed conflict is actual fighting

Fight for justice under conditions of a just war
Conditions gained from war are never better than the injustice that started it, does not go against Jesus teachings but it’s necessary for greater good

Christian views of violent protest
Against violence “blessed are the peacemakers” - Jesus
God gave humans free will and choice and sometimes non violent protest is ignored, so Violence may be used to for change for common good
What is terrorism
An act of violence to create fear
Why do terrorists attack
They are fighting against social and political injustice, where a group are being denied human rights
They are fighting against poverty
They are fighting to assert their religious beliefs, especially where they fell these are denied to them
How can greed be a reason for war
For gain of land, resources or power
Greed comes from selfishness not approved by religions, not justifiable
How is self defence a reason for war
If a country or religion under attack then conflicts can happen
It would be seen as entirely right and proper to defend your own country against attack
How is retaliation a reason for war
At times country will be attacked which provoked retaliation
Often a spontaneous reaction which leads to the escalation of a situation and hence war
Is religion a cause of war
Most are politics rather than religion
Relgious beliefs do cause violence
What are Christian Attitudes to war and peace
“Put away your sword. Those who live by the sword die by the sword” - Jesus (Matthew 26:52)

Many Christians only agree with war under certain circumstances - felt reasons for it wrong, only when it’s a last resort and peaceful efforts failed

Believing all war and killing is wrong
What’s holy war
Believing it’s right to right a war in the name of God
What’s a just war
Believing it’s right to fight a war in the interests or justice and the greater good. Within some religious traditions there is clear guidance on the rules and legitimacy of wars
What is a holy war
Within Christian history, soldiers believe in God
Christsins Believe they were fighting a sacred and noble cause, they believed God was with them

Try to write a set of rules to justify a war
What are the Christian just war rules
War must be started and controlled by a proper authority such as the government
There might be a just cause - not just aggression towards an enemy
War must have a clear aim to promote good and overcome evil
War must be a last resort- every effort must have been made to resolve conflict peacefully
Must be a reasonable chance of succes
Must be conducted fairly, reasonable force and risk of civilians mininamalised
Must be a good outcome and peace restored

Send small teams to work on peace making in conflict zone, trying to end conflict between sides by peaceful means and bring aid and support to the victims of war

Capable of killing and maiming large numbers of people and large levels of destruction

Also known as atomic bombs which cause immediate destruction

Type of WMD
Also known as germ warfare, using disease causing bacterium or viruses to bring about death

Using non living toxins such as nerve agents and mustard gas to cause death and illness

Accepts just war theory, sees was a necessary in certain time
Quakers society is pacifist and don’t join armies and refuse to participate in any violence
