Why is OH&S important, what are some of the current health and safety issues?
OH&S is important for many reasons. If a worker does not return home due to injury or death it can have sever impacts on the employees family and friends. It will have further impact on the employer, the workplace and the health system. OH&S costs billions to the economy. Some of the current issues involve, sexual harassment, stress, smoking, substance abuse, terrorism and security.
Describe the development of OH&S in Australia
There is a goal to have a unified OH&S program across Australia. The goal is to prevent a workplace from injury, disease and death. Provide compensation to workers or their families in the instance they incur injury or death. Rehabilitate workers suffering from injury to assist their return to work.
