A

an electronic senor that detects physical motion in an envrionment.

20
Q

scanner

A
  • captures printed photos and images for editing on a computer
21
Q

scanner types

A
  • hand held
  • flatbed
  • automatic document feeder (ADF)
22

A

a video camera that transmits live video over the internet

24
Q

Three main computer output devices

A
  • Display
  • Printer
  • Speakers
25
Q

Important combined I/O devices include

A
  • Audio headsets
  • KVM switches
  • Set top boxes
  • Smart TVs
  • touchscreen displays
  • MIDI instruments
26

28
Q

STU

A

set top unit

29
Q

set top unit (STU)

A

alternative name for set top box

30
Q

Set top box

A

received digital audio and video singals then send those signals to a display (such as TV or computer display)

31
Q

touch screen types

A
  • Resistive
  • capactive
  • surface acoustic wave
32
Q

resistive touchscreen

A
  • uses two layers, a layer of glass and a conductive and resistive meyal layer with an electical current running between them. When you touch the screen, pressure on the screen makes the layers touch and there is a change in electical current in that spot
  • only register touch in one spot at a time
  • easiest and cheapest to manufacture
  • require frequent calibration
  • common in older device, but less frequent in modern devices
33
Q

capactive touchscreen

A
  • dual layer
  • the layer with the electical charge is placed directly on the glass panel.
  • when you touch the creen, some of the charge is transferred to you, causing a decress in electical charge at that location on the screen.
  • the coordinates of the change in charge are sent to the os and the software translates this info into the correct user input
  • capactive touchscreens work well with multi-touch
  • require little calibration
  • dominant modenr touchscreen tech
34
Q

surface acoustic wave technologu

A
  • uses a glass panel with a receiving and sending tranducer mounted along the sides of the panel
  • touch the glass panel istrubs the wave allowing the receiving transducer to identify the touch event.
  • can use almost any object for input
  • best for displaying detailed graphics because it has not metal layer allong for 100% throughput from the display
  • doesn’t support multitouch
  • more expensive than other touch screen tech
