Longus coli info
Lies deep to the superficial muscles of the neck on the anterolateral aspect of the cervical and upper thoracic vertebrae
Helps to form a muscular sleeve
Superficial fibres extend over 2 or 3 segmental levels
Deeper fibres extend over 1
Arrangement ensures that normal muscle tone provides segmental stability durning static postures of the head
During active flexion all fibres contract together to produce flexion segmentally while the global muscles produce the movement
Longus coli lower
O: T1-3
I: TP of C5/6
A: segmental flexion of cervical spine
NS: anterior rami C3-6
Longus coli middle
O: bodies C5-T3
I: bodies C2-4
