7-B Development of the Urinary Sytem Flashcards
T/F A child born with a variant in the urinary system has an increased chance of a variance int eh reproductive system.
True
Name the 4 primordial that will make up the urogenital system
intermediated column of mesoderm (urogenital ridge); cloaca (terminal portion of hind gut, genital swellings and germ cells (from the yolk cells)
What becomes of the urogenital ridge?
gonad and duct system, kidneys and part of the duct system
What becomes of the cloaca?
bladder and portion of the urethra as well as the rectum
What becomes of the genital swellings
external genitaila
What type of tissue does the intermediate mesoderm differentiate from?
intermediate mesoderm (runs along length of the embryo)
The urogenital ridges are __________ (relative location) and form a bulge on either side of the gut tube, with its dorsal mesentery.
retroperitoneal
Name the two ducts that come from the urogenital ridge.
mesonephric duct (ends into the cloaca) and the paramesonephric duct (ends blindly behind the cloaca)
What is the cloaca?
a dilated terminal portion of the hid gut, abuts against the cloacal membrane (mesonephric duct empties into the cloaca)
Name 3 portions of the genital swellings as they develop.
genital tubercle, laboscrotal folds, urogential folds
Name the embryonic tissue that becomes the collecting system v. the nephron (primordia of the kidney)
urteric bud vs the metanephros
What is the projection of the cloaca into the umbilicus called?
allantois
What partitions the cloaca into urinary and digestive tracts?
the urorectal septum
What do the peramesonephric ducts form?
the uterus and part of the vagina
Where does the metanephros grow from?
tissue at the inferior end of the urogenital ridge, it forms the urine producing components of the kidney
Differentiation of the adult kidney begins with what?
interaction of the ureteric bud and metanephros, the interaction causes splitting of the mesoenphric duct
The ureteric bud aries from what tissue and will eventually develop into what tissue?
arises from the mesonephric duct and will become the ureter
How does the ureteric bud become separate from the mesonephric duct?
due to bladder differential growth the two tubes divide
What do we call the vestige of the mesonephric ducts in adults?
trigone of the bladder
Kidney’s ascend to where in the abdomen?
T12- L3
How does the arterial supply to the kidney develop as the kidney ascends
kidney’s do not drag their vasculature with them, they instead form multiple connection along the length of the aorta successively as they ascend
Name three common variations in kidney development.
pelvic kidney or horseshoe kidney (metanephric tissue bilaterally is joined and gets caught on the inferior mesentery while ascending , duplication of the ureter (bifid ureter); rare: rectovesicular fistula is a compartment traveling between the rectum and bladder and renal a genesis (proper kidney never fully forms)
What is the difficulty associated with polar renal arteries?
can obstruct the renal pelvis (ureter)
What is a patent urachus?
when allantois does not become the median umbilical ligament, in which case the bladder has an opening at the umbilicus and urine may drain through it
