7 Aircraft Systems Flashcards
Why are propellers angled?
To generate even lift
What types of propellers are there?
Climb and cruise.
Climb has a lower pitch which means less dry and more RPMs. Cruise means it has a higher pitch and a lower rpm better for cruising.
What does the throttle do?
Controls the air to fuel ratio to the engine.
How does the induction system work?
The induction system brings in air from outside, makes it with the fuel, delivers to the cylinder where the combustion occurs. It is the intake port on the front of the engine.
What is carb icing?
Carb icing reduces the air pressure, vaporization of fuel contributes to the temp decrease in carburetor. There is water vapor in the air. Does causing icing when it is below freezing temperatures. Icing can occur anytime below 70°, and humidity greater than 80%.
What is the fuel injection system?
The fuel injection system is an engine driven fuel pump, fuel air control unit, fuel manifold, discharge nozzle, auxiliary fuel pump, feel pressure/ flow indicators.
What does the ignition system do?
Ignition system provides a spark to ignite the fuel air mixture in the cylinder. It includes the magnetos, spark plugs, high tension leads, and ignition switch.
How does a magneto work?
I might need to use a magnet to generate an electrical current separate from the electrical system. It generates a high voltage to jump spark across the spark plug gap in each cylinder.
What does the oil system do?
The oil system cools, lubricates, provides sealing between cylinder walls and pistons, carry is contaminants away.
What is the alternator in charge of?
Engine electrical things
