When the Israelites reached Marah, the water was so bitter no one could drink it. So God told Moses to throw some wood into the water and it became fresh. God then laid down a law for the people. Saying, “Listen carefully to the Lord your God and do what is right in my eyes. Keep all my commandments, and I will be your healer.”
