Why is Moses one of the most important people in the Old Testament?
God chose Moses to free hi people from slavery in Egypt.
Why did a Pharaoh force the Hebrews into slavery?
He saw that there were many strong Hebrews and he feared they might try to take over Egypt.
What did the Pharaoh do when the number of Israelites continued to increase?
The Pharaoh ordered that newborn Hebrew boys be drowned.
Explain the circumstances of Moses birth and childhood.
Hearing that the Pharaoh wanted all Hebrew boys drowned, one Hebrew woman hid her new born son for 3 months. When he couldn’t be hides safety any longer, she placed him in a basket and left him among the reeds along the Nile (his sister watched). Soon the Pharaoh’s daughter came down to the river and founded him. She knew he was Hebrew and felt sorry for him. She allowed an Israelite woman (his real mother) to nurse him and when he no longer needed to be nursed she adopted him and names him Moses. He was brought up as a prince at Pharaoh’s court. But he knew he was Hebrew and it bothered him to see his people suffer.

Why did Moses flee Egypt to go to Midian?
One day Moses saw an Egyptian strike a Hebrew. In anger, Moses killed the Egyptian and quickly buried him in the sand. When the Pharaoh found out, he sought to put Moses to death. So Moses fled to Median.
Who did Moses met when he fled to Midian?
The Midianite priest Reuel, also known as Jethro.
What happened to Moses after he fled to Midian?
He went to live with Reuel’s (Jethro) family. Eventually marrying one of his daughter’s and for years worked as a shepherd for her father.
How did God call Moses to free his people from Egypt?
While Moses was tending the sheep grazing on Mt. Sinai (also called Mt. Horeb), he revealed himself to Moses while still remaining a mystery. Moses saw a bush flaming with fire but not burning up. God called his name and told him to remove his sandal s for he was on holy ground.
What did God say to Moses?
“I have listened to my people, who are suffering greatly in Egypt. I have heard their cries. I will rescue them and lead them into a land flowing with milk and honey. I will send you to Pharaoh to lead my people out of Egypt.”
What was Moses response?
He made many excuses. His first excuse was “Who am I to go?” He asked who shall I tell them sent me? God said “I am who I am. I am the Lord, the God of your fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

What was Moses second excuse?
“I am a slow speaker and cannot speak well.” But God answered, I will assist you. And your brother Aaron will go with you and speak for you.
Eventually Moses did what God asked and left for Egypt. What did they do there?
Moses and Aaron went before the pharaoh and delivered God’s message. “thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Let my people go. They are to celebrate a feast to me in the desert.” But the Pharaoh refused. Lord responded now you will see what I will do to the Pharaoh.
What did God do to the Pharaoh?
God sent Ten Plagues - at God’s command Moses went back to the Pharaoh and warned him. If you refuse to let my people worship me in the desert, I will strike the water of the river and change it to blood. All the fish will die and the water will be unfit to drink.
