Canada’s government is a constitutional monarchy. Canada recognized the British monarch as head of state, although Canada is an independent country. The leader of the nation is the prime minister. Canada has a Parliament similar to the United States Congress. Another leader in Canada’s government is the governor general, who is the personal representative of the British monarch.
