6.Equilibria Flashcards
Define dynamic equilibrium
When a the forward and reverse reactions of a reversible reaction (in an closed system) proceed at an equal rate so the concentration of the reactants and the products stays the same
State La Chatelier’s principle
If a system at equilibrium is disturbed, the equilibrium moves in the direction that tend to reduce the disturbance (disturbance must be specified within context of question)
Write the equation for Kc for the equation 2A+B –> C
[A]^2 [B]
If equilibria shifts to the left, what effect does it have on Kc? (temperature)
Decreases
If equilibria shifts to the right, what effect does it have on Kc? (temperature)
Increases
Does concentration have an effect on Kc
No. Kc is a constant provided the temperature stays the same so concertation does not effect Kc. The relationship between the products and the reactants always remains contstant.
What effect do catalysts have on the position of equilibrium
No effect. They affect the forward and backward reaction equally
