65. Mycoplasmosis + mastitis Flashcards
Avian Mycoplasmosis
M. galliepticum
M.meleagridis
M.iowae
Mycoplasmosis Clinical findings
> Respiratory diseases: lung lesions
Decrease egg production and growth rate
Respiratory distress, nasal discharge, swelling of
paranasal sinus
Mycoplasms
Fastidious,
No cell wall
Vulnerable to common disinfectants
Treatment
Given in feed/water for 5-7 days (or inj: turkeys)
Tetracyclines: OTC, CTC, doxycline
Macrolides + lincosamides:
> Erythromycin, Tilmicosin, tylosin, Lincomysin
Fluroquinolones: Enrofloxacin, diflofloxin
Others
> Tiamulin, spectinomycin, florphenicol
Swine Mycoplasmosis
M. hyopneumonia
>Viral and enzoonotic pneumonia
Prevention: >Improve housing + husbandry, >ventilation and overcrowding > Medication + vaccination > All in all out
Mastitis
Subclincal,
Clincal
Acute
Chronic
Subclinical Mastitis
no medicine
Freq + latent
Economical loss: Incr. somatic cell #
Correct hygeine
Clincal Mastitis
Visible abnormal milk Inflammation: Udder changes 1.Mild: Local signs 2. Severe: rapid onset, systemic involvemment > Fever, anorexia, shock
Acute
Sudden onset
Decr. Production
Serous milk/ fibrin clots
Severe inflam symptoms
Chronic
subclinical, latent for months
Mastitis: Prevention
Hygiene > Permilking germicide (ionophore) > Clean equipment after use Udder hair removal Clean dry bedding ans udder Nutritional management: Na+ and K+ intake Prevent frostbite and fly exposure
Mastitis treatment:
- Acute: Stripping, AB (systemic + intra-mammary), fluid therapy (electrolytes)
> Anti-inflam, analgesics, anti-pyretics - Sub acute: Intra-mam: AB infusion, stripping
- Chronic: treat flare up, cull cow
- Subclinical: treat during dry period: inflamm AB
Mastitis:
> Systemic drugs
Broad spec, good penetration (Cross Blood milk barrier)
> Florfenicol
> B-Lactam: Penthamat, ceftiofur, ceftiquine
> Fluroquinolones: Danofloxacin, marbofloxacin
> Tetracyclines: OTC
> Anti-inflam:
- NSAIDs: Ketoprofen
- Glucocorticoids: Dexmetazome
> Others
- Ca- gluconate
- Isotonic solution
Mastitis
> Intramammary infustions
Strip out 1st Lactating cows: water emulsions (shorter WP) Dry cows: Oil based (longer DOA) **No corticosteroids** - Penicillins -Cephalosporins -Aminoglycosides (Neomycin) - Macrolides + lincosamides (Erythromycin, lincomycin) - Norobiocin -Colisitn
