54. anti-coccidial Flashcards
Chemoprophylaxis drugs
Ionophore antibiotics Triazines Thers: -Amprolium - halofuginon - nicarbazin -robenidein
Treatment
Sulphonamides
Triazines (toltrazuril)
Ionophore antibiotics
Lipophilic
Penetrate inner and outer cell membranes:
-Not specific.. Highly toxic (cardia + respiratory)
- Never give to Eq, Ca, or Fe
- Interaction with Tiamulin, erythromycin,
sulfonamides, lincomycin
- lasalocid = has no toxic interactions: safe
Affects 1st schizonts gen
Monvalent
-Monensin, narasin, salinomycin
Divalent
- lasalocid
semidivalent
-Maduramicin
Ionophore drugs
All chemoprophylaxix
Monesin > Chemoprop turkey + chicken Narasin > chicken Salinomycin > Chicken + rabbit Lasalocid > Chicken + turkey Maduramicin > Chicken + turkey Semduramicin > Chicken
toxic interaction with Tiamulin
Monesin Salinomycin Narasin meduramicin semduramicin
Triazuril
Tolrazuril: CPS + treatment
diclazuril: CPS
Other Chemoprophylaxis:
Amprolium > Vit B1 antagonist (only for 14 days as can lead to beri beri disease) > CPS, treatment and prevention Halofuginan > CPS Robenidine > Tastes meat > used as CPS Nicarbazin > decrease tolerance heat stress (avoid summer application)
Sulphonamides
PABA competitive antagonists –> Inhibit folic acid synth
2nd gen Schizonts: Allow development of natural immunity
Short term use only (Vit K def: heamorrhagic syndrome)
> Sulfachlorpyrazine
> Sulfadimetoxine
> sulfaquinoxaline
> Sulfadimidine
combine with Di-aminopyrimidines = potentiated
