What is a primary energy source?
Sources used in their raw form. E.g burning fossil fuels, nuclear energy.
What is secondary energy?
Energy generated from primary energy. E.g. electricity
Define imported energy
Energy imported from other countries to fill an energy deficit.(e.g.Norway sends it’s oil and natural gas overseas to places like the uk)
Define non-renewable fuels
Fuels that are finite and will eventually run out
Define renewable fuels
Continuous flows of energy that won’t run out. E.g. wind, solar and tidal.
Define Recyclable fuels
Fuels that can be reprocessed and used again. E.g. plutonium and urainium as well as heat recovery systems.
How does physical availabilty affect consumption
Long term geological processes determine where energy source reserves are found, this influences who has access to them and the price each country pays to use them.
How does climate affect how energy resources are consumed?
Climate affects the viability of renewable energy resources. For example solar needs clear skies and wind power needs constant strong winds.
How do development levels impact the consumption of nergy resources?
Advanced technology is needed to exploit natural resources used for producing electricity which developing countries may not have access to.
There isn’t always enough demand for energy in developing countries to make it viable to extract the resources.
Hiw does cost affect energy consumption?
Costs are pasted onto consumers so tose who can’t afford it maay consider cutting their enrgy useage. Those in devloped countries use more as they can afford to.
How can environmental priorities affect energy consumption?
Different cultures veiw the natural envioronment differently some see it as a resource to be exploited whereas others are concerned with serious damage caused by extracting energy resources.
What is the role of TNC’s in terms of energy?
Provide investment for exploration and extraction of resources
What is the role of OPEC?
Influence the supply and price of world oil by controlling production. Consumers influence energy mix through voicing environmental concerns.
What is the role of governmetns in terms of energy?
Provide legislation on emmision levels and costs for consumers and act to proctect energy pathways.
