5.6ab Flashcards
How will climate change impact snow pack?
The depth of snow surving from one winter to the next will decrease and the time of year snow starts melting will be early.
How will climate change impact glacier mass?
Most glacier are in retreat, especially at lower altitudes. Even Antarctic ice shelves are melting.
How will climate change impact lakes and reserviors?
High evapouration rates have decreased water heights adn lower precipitation rates mean lakes aren’t refilled in times of drought.
How will climate change impact permafrost?
Tundra areas are expirencing the greatest degree of warming, therfore all forms of permafrost are expirencing melting.
How will climate change impact soil moisture?
Higher air temperatures are have drawn more water from soils by evaporation. This will cause greater soil erosion and loss of habitat in wetland areas
How will climate change impact Evaporation?
Evapouration rates have incresed leading to more moisture in the atmosphere.
How will climate change impact precipitation?
Higher humdity in the atmosphere creates a greater potential for condensation and preipitation, but patterns will be variable. Often rainfall is likely to to be heavier and more intense.
How will climate change impact Runoff and streamlfow?
Where precipitation is in heavy, short bursts or is prolonged, due to higher humidity levels, or where snow and ice are melting, more water will run off the surface and enter streams, increasing flood risk
