6.3 Groups in the periodic table- Group 0 Flashcards
Give two reasons why Noble gases are chemically Inert
.They have 8 electrons in their outer shell meaning their shells are full
.Their electron configurations demonstrate full outershells and makes them unreactive
What is the only noble gas that does not have 8 electrons in its outer shell?
Helium
How many electrons are in Heliums outer shell?
2
Give an example of how Low Density gases can be used
Helium is used in airships and balloons and airships as its less dense so balloons filled with it will float upwards
Give an example of how inertness and non flammable gases can be used
Argon, Krypton, and Xenon inside lightbulbs, stop the filament burning away
Give an example of how inertness gases are used
Argon used as a shield gas when welding, it is also denser than air which keeps it away from the metal
How do the boiling points of noble gases change as you go down the group?
.They increase
.They increase with increasing relative atomic masses
What happens to the densities of the gases as you go down the group?
They increase
