- Painful, red area (no central clearing)
- Associated Fever
- Regional Lymphadenopathy
- Regional Lymphangitis

What is the most common causative organism of Erysipelas?
A
Streptococcal Pyogenes

Where does Erysipelas usually occur?
A
- 70-80% of cases involve the Lower Limb
- 5-20% affect the face
- Tends to occur in areas of:
- a) Pre-existing Lymphoedema
- b) Venous Stasis
- c) Obesity
- d) Paraparesis
- e) Diabetes Mellitus

What is the treatment of Erysipelas?
A
A combination of anti-staphylococcal and anti-streptococcal antibiotics
Note - in extensive disease, admission of I.V. antibiotics and rest may be needed
