How common is Sepsis?
Common - about 30% of patients who go into A&E will have some form of it
- What is happening to the incidence level of Sepsis?
- Why?
- It is increasing (becoming more common)
- People are living longer and so are more at risk
What is the consequence of Sepsis combined with another condition? (e.g. reason for admission to A&E)
- Increased morbidity
- Increased mortality
What is the relationship of length of stay in hospital between Septic Shock patients, and everyone else?
Septic Shock patients stay in hospital longer than other hospitalizations:
1. Average length of stay for Septic Shock - 8.4 days
2. Average length of stay for other hospitalization - 4.8 days
What happens on delay of administering antibiotics in Septic Shock?
Mortality increases drastically - 7.6% per hour
