All members who operate firefighting apparatus, should have certification and/or training validating competent operational and driving skills consistent with NFPA 1002, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or Pro Board Fire Service Professional Qualification System standards.

Due to the unique vehicle profile and operational considerations of the specific apparatus, most training for aerial driver operator will be at the company level. This training should not be started until the trainee has demonstrated proficiency as a Driver Operator II.

The Company Officer will be responsible for observing and evaluating the skill performance, emergency vehicle operations course and street drive of the member in the assigned aerial apparatus to determine if the member is qualified to act in the capacity of an aerial driver for department staffing.

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and PEOSH require that medical examinations and consultations be made available to members of a HAZMAT response within prescribed time periods.

Accurate records of the medical surveillance required by this policy shall be retained for the duration of the member’s employment plus 30 years.

All Midwest City Fire Department members whose job duties may include a role in emergency management or incident response shall be appropriately trained to the NIMS standards to improve all-hazards capabilities nationwide

All department personnel with job duties that include a direct role in emergency management or incident response must complete the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) NIMS IS-700 course.

The Training Division will create and maintain an annual master training calendar for the Department.

When a member ends employment with the Department, that member’s training file will be archived and maintained for a minimum of seven full calendar years following the member’s separation from service or in accordance with the department’s established records retention schedule.

A member may request to review his/her training file either verbally or in writing. The Training Division should facilitate those requests as soon as practicable but in all cases within 21 days of the member’s request to review his/her file.

Any member who observes another member engaging in unsafe behavior should report the behavior to his/her supervisor as soon as reasonably practicable.

Company Officers are responsible for ensuring members attend required health, safety, and survival training.
