6-The Rate And Extent Of Chemical Changes Flashcards
What is collision theory
The reacting of particles. The more collisions the faster the reaction.
What effects rate of reaction
Temperature Concentration of a solution Pressure Surface area Presence of catalysts
How do you calculate rate of reaction
Rate of reaction= amount of reactant used or amount of product formed/ time
What is a reversible reaction
When a reaction can go backwards
What is le chatelier’s principle
That if you change the conditions of a reversible reaction at equilibrium the system will do the opposite
What is the 4 rate of reaction practicals
Sodium thiosulphate and hcl
Change in mass
The volume of gas given off
Precipitation and colour change
What are the steps for the sodium thiosulphate and hcl practical
1- add a set volume of sodium thiosulphate to a conical flask
2-place the flask on a piece of paper with a black cross drawn on it
3-start adding hcl to the flask and add hcl and start a stopwatch
4- watch for the cross to disappear in the cloudy solution
How can you see how change in concentation affects the rate
Repeat the method using different acid concentrations
What is exothermic
When heat is lost to the surroundings
What is endothermic
When heat taken from the surroundings
