Q

what is the difference between PR and advertising?

A
  1. Paid vs. Earned Media
    - Advertising involves paid placements of promotional messages in various media channels such as television, radio, print, online, and social media.
    - PR focuses on earning media coverage through strategic relationships with journalists, influencers, and media outlets
  2. Control over Message
    - the advertiser has complete control over the content, messaging, and placement of their ads
    - In PR, while organizations can influence the message conveyed through media coverage, they have less direct control over how their brand or story is portrayed by journalists and media outlets.
  3. Audience
    - Ads may be aimed a reaching potential customers and driving sales
    - PR may be based on enhancing brand awareness, managing reputation, shaping public perception etc

ie Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds put out ads to target their audience, but they also work with PR to promote brand awareness and reputation
