- Describe the hygiene for massage:
A
- remove all jewellery from yours and clients hands
- wash hands according to hand washing guide
- client can be seated at table or supine in esthetics bed
- make sure client sleeves are pushed up passed elbow
- esthetician should be standing at the side of the bed, o run front, slightly to the side of the chair

- What are benefits of massage:
A
- Blood circulation
- Warmth and colour of tissues is improved due to circulation
- Improvement of muscle tone, firm skin & underlying muscle and tissue. Also due to circulation
- Appearance of skin is improved
- Lymphatic drainage improved (tissues benefit from efficient elimination of waste, bacterial and malignant cells)
- massage relieves pain in tense and rheumatic muscle fibres
- Soothing and relaxing for client

Contraindications for massage:
A
- Overly hair areas (can be irritating causing rash and discomfort)
- Over recent wounds or operation scars, as there is a danger of stretching the scar tissue
- Over the bacterial infection
- Over internal inflammation, such as arthritic flare up with painful swollen finger joints
- If inflammation or pain is present, massage with aggravate the condition
- Over varicose veins
