What is paraffin treatment?
A
- is hydrating and soothing
- increased blood circulation
- may be used on rough and dry skin
- highly recommended to perform many pedi (excluding polish) before paraffin treatment

What are contraindications for paraffin treatment?
A
- irritated eczema or psoriasis
- cuts or wounds
- warts, athletes foot

- what are benefits of paraffin wax treatment?
A
- stimulate blood circulation, invigorating tissues/ improving their health
- makes skin soft and supple, making cuticles easy to work with and helps eliminate hangnails and calluses
- improves dry, chapped hands and feet
- it will temporarily plump out the wrinkles on the hands
- relieves pain in muscles and joints, such as pain of arthritis, rheumatism, muscle spasms, and inflamed joints

- what is paraffin wax made of?
A
-many commercial waxes are blends of paraffin wax which is obtain from the distillation of petroleum and beeswax from hives

- At what temperature does paraffin wax melt?
A
- waxes are solid at room temperature
- for the treatment of hands and feet, they are warmed at 53C (127F) at which temperature they are liquid

- How to safely warm paraffin wax?
A
- waxes can be flammable which means they should not be applied to direct heat, even in a double boiler
- they should be heated in purpose-built paraffin wax baths, in which the heating element is sealed away from the wax
- wax must be discarded after use

Describe the paraffin pre treatment protocol:
A
- make sure the surrounding areas are protected from splashes by tissues or plastic sheets
- wax can be difficult to remove so if some has spilled on the fabric, place between blotting paper and go over with an iron. The wax will melt and be drawn out of the fabric into the paper. Method cannot be used with all fabrics
- optional: prepare insulated booties and mittens along with bags
- protect clients clothing by placing towel in lap, rolling up pant legs and sleeves
- remove the clients jewelry from the treatment areas
