Q

trying to understand how people understand

A

This implies that when we report on results of our qualitative research, we cannot report on general facts, nor can we summaries these facts in a few numbers. We can only tell a story, which is very much dependent on the context of us as researchers, as well as on the context of our participants.

It usually would go too far to tell all stories, nor can we go into all details of each different context and situation. So we limit ourselves to some telling examples, which support our conclusions.

But since we cannot come up with the general facts, it becomes even more important that we convince our audience about the procedural thoroughness of our interpretive analysis, and illustrate our conclusions with samples from our data, through which we can at least show the top of the ice berg, even if we cannot show all of it.
