5.5 Salts From Insoluble Bases Flashcards
What is the difference between alkali and bases?
- bases are compounds that can neutralise acids (they have a pH more than 7)
- an alkali is a type of base that are soluble in water
Examples of bases
Metal oxides, such as sodium or copper oxide
Neutralisation def
The chemical reaction of an acid with a base in which a salt and water are formed.
What are salts made up of and where do the positive ions come from
- Positive metal ions and and a negative ion from an acid
- +ve ions come from a metal, a base or a carbonate
Do ionic compounds have an overall charge
No
