What is de-population?
People moving out of the CBD for a variety of reasons.(e.g. Cheaper housing etc)
What is de-industrialisation?
Factories close down as docks move to the coast as it is harder for them to transport their goods on a large scale to the docks at the coast.
What is suburbanisation?
When people move out of the city to the suburbs where housing is cheaper.
What is decentralisation?
When out of town shopping centres and business parks attract consumers away from the CBD so the CBD declines.
What is a brownfield site?
Former industrial areas that have been developed before.
What is the greenbelt?
An undeveloped area of land around the edges of cities with strict planning control.
What is gentrification?
When high income earners move into run down areas to be closer to their work place, often resulting in rehabilitation and regeneration of areas to conform with middle class life style.
How far across is London north-south?

How many people did London lose between 1951 and 1981?
1.5 million people moved out of London between 1951 and 1981.
Since what ear has the flow of people leaving London reversed?
Since 1991
Why have people moved out towards the URF from the CBD?
Because housing is an order of magnitude cheaper in the URF than the CBD as there is more space to build so the density of people is lower. It is also very easy and fast to get to the CBD from the URF.
