How do world cities contribute to the world and surrounding area?
- Investment: Several trillion US dollars go through London every year (half the worlds money).
- TNC’s decide what to produce, sell and where economic activity occurs, 80% of the largest companies in the world have headquarters in the US,EU and japan.
- Political decisions, political decisions in world cities can effect the world globally as it defines where companies should invest money.
What is the minimum number of people who have to live in a city for it to be classified as a mega city?
10 Million people

Two thirds of the worlds current mega cities are in developing and emerging countries.

Why do people move to primate cities?
- investment: businesses locate there attracting investment in infrastructure.
- migration: there are lots of jobs so people move there to find work.
- transport: international ports and airports are often located in or near primate cities.
- political: governments and TNC headquarters are often located in primate cities as they are generally the capital.

They are mostly located in Asia, Europe and America.
What is a world city?
A world city is a city which has ‘urban primacy’ (they are more important and influential than their size suggests) they also have a large influence in global politics and economy.
