5.17 Kidneys 2 - Anatomy & Nephrons Flashcards
How does blood pass through the kidneys?
It goes in through the renal arteries and out through the renal veins
What does the tubule carry?
The filtered fluid that becomes urine
What 5 main things can be filtered through bowman’s capsule?
- Water
- Glucose
- Amino acids
- Urea
- Ions
What are the five parts of the tubule in order?
- Bowman’s capsule
- Proximal convoluted tubule
- Loop of henle
- Distal convoluted tubule
- Collecting duct
Where does the urine go after it goes through the collecting duct?
Down to the ureters into the bladder and then passed through the urethra
Between which two structures does filtration (sometimes called ultrafiltration) take place?
- Glomerulus
- Bowman’s capsule
How much urea is selectively reabsorbed?
None
How many ions are selectively reabsorbed?
It depends on how many we already have in the blood
How much glucose is selectively reabsorbed?
Almost all
