514-6 Joints Flashcards
What are the four types of joints and their medical names?
- Bony Joint (synostosis) 2. Fibrous Joint (synarthrosis) 3. Cartilaginous Joint (Amphiarthrosis) 4. Synovial Joint
What are the 2 main examples of a bony joint?
- Fomation of the mandible 2. Metaphysis between the epiphysis and diaphysis
What are the three types of sutures in a FIBROUS joint?
- Serrate (interlocking wavy lines) 2. Lap/Squamous (overlapping beveled edges) 3. Plane/Butt(straight, non overlapping)
What are the three types of fibrous joint?
- Suture (3 types of its own) 2. Gomphoses (PDLs!!) 3. Syndesmoses (radius/ulna&tibia/fibula)
What are the 2 types of Cartilaginous Joints?
- Synchondroses(Ribs + hyaline cartilage, epiphysial plate) 2. Symphyses (intervertebral & pubic sym)
What are the four main parts of a synovial joint?
- Joint Capsule 2. Synovial Fluid 3. Articular Cartilage 4. Meniscus
What are the six types of Synovial Joints?
- Ball & Socket 2. Hinge 3. Saddle 4. Pivot 5. Glide 6. Condyloid
What are the two main components of synovial fluid?
Albumin & Hyaluronic Acid
What is the meniscus made of?
Fibrocartilage
What three joints types contribute to the TMJ?
- Condyloid (DUH!) 2. Hinge 3. Gliding
What are the two parts of articulation for the TMJ?
Condyle on Mandible and The Glenoid (Mandibular) Fossa on the temporal bone
What two words describe the capsule of the TMJ?
Fibrous & Non-elastic
Where is the fibrocartilage of the condyle found? (Add another “zone” to the typical metaphysis area)
The fibrocartilaginous zone is in between the proliferative zone and the calcified zone
What are the two components of the articular disc of the TMJ?
- Fibroblasts 2. Dense Fibrous C.T.
What are the two main classes of Arthritis?
Osteoarthritis & Rheumatiod
