5003 - Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Sustainability, and the Circular Economy - Globalisation (Lecture 3) Flashcards
Objective for lecture:
Assess pros and cons of Globalisation (Morally, all cons)
Emphasise importance of CSR in the workplace and CSR issues in the workplace
To introduce CSR initiatives in the community in the context of strategic philanthropy (Ooooooo look at us were being progressive) - Virgin Advert (minority bingo)
To understand the importance of a sustainable approach in respect to environmental issues
Arguments ‘FOR’ Globalisation:
- Increased standards of living for everyone (I’m guessing in theory? or over a long period of time because I disagree with this being true)
- Higher Wages for workers worldwide (Technically true but Inflation and the rich/poor divide)
- Economic development of impoverished nations (True, but usually with the incentive of exploitation via cheap labour)
Arguments AGAINST Globalisation
- Exploitation of developing nations and workers
- Destruction of the environment
- Human rights violations
- Benefits the wealthy A LOT more than it benefits the poor (makes sense right?)
