5 part 2 Flashcards
What are the properties of a binomial experiment
- experiment consists of n identical trails (fixed # of trials)
- 2 outcomes are possible on each trial (success or failure)
- The prob. of a success is denoted by p does NOT change from trial to trail
- the prob of a failure 1-p does not change from trail to trail - the trials are independent
Bernoulli Process involves what properties of a binomial experiment
2,3 and 4
What is the formula to compute expected value for a binomial experiment
E(x) = M = np
What is the formula to compute the variance for a binomial experiment
Var (x) = Q squared = np (1-p)
What is easier the formula or using a table for a binomial experiment
- generally easier and faster than the formula
- also there are software packages and spreadsheets
At least one successes in 2 trails
P(x>=1) = f(1)+f(2)
What is the Possion Probability Distribution
- often used to model random arrivals in waiting lines situations
- useful in estimating the # of occurrances over a specified interval of time or space
What are the properties of a Possion Experiment
- the prov of an occurrence is the same for any 2 intervals of equal length
- the occurrence OR nonoccurrence in any interval is independent of the occrrence or nonoccurrence in any other interval
What are the properties of a Possion Experiment
- the prov of an occurrence is the same for any 2 intervals of equal length
- the occurrence OR nonoccurrence in any interval is independent of the occurrence or nonoccurrence in any other interval
When do you use the Hypergeometric
- closely related to binomial but NO REPLACEMENT
What are the properties of Hypergeometric
- Trials are NOT INDEPENDENT
2. prov of success changes form tiral to trial
