5 part 2 Flashcards

1
Q

What are the properties of a binomial experiment

A
  1. experiment consists of n identical trails (fixed # of trials)
  2. 2 outcomes are possible on each trial (success or failure)
  3. The prob. of a success is denoted by p does NOT change from trial to trail
    - the prob of a failure 1-p does not change from trail to trail
  4. the trials are independent

Q

What is the Possion Probability Distribution

A
  • often used to model random arrivals in waiting lines situations
  • useful in estimating the # of occurrances over a specified interval of time or space

Q

What are the properties of a Possion Experiment

A
  1. the prov of an occurrence is the same for any 2 intervals of equal length
  2. the occurrence OR nonoccurrence in any interval is independent of the occrrence or nonoccurrence in any other interval
