(1) Samuel Hopkins Adams published articles on the patent medicine business and pointed out how most “cures” were just sugar water, and could have harmful ingredients in them.
(2) Upton SInclair published the Jungle which described the horrible sanitary conditions of Chicago slaughterhouses. Caused the Meat Inspection Act.
(3) The Pure Food and Drug Act prohibited the manufacture, sale, or shipment of falsely labeled products.
Conservation:
Teddy Roosevelt and John Muir combined their ideas about wilderness and inspired each other while camping alone together for a few days. For President Roosevelt, felt motivated to act swiftly to protect acres of wilderness. He left a large legacy behind on this topic of conserving natural resources.
Triangle Shirtwaist Fire:
The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory burned down, and with a single locked exit, 146 workers were killed in total.
