5- IOA Flashcards
Accuracy
observed = true
Does the observed values match the true value?
Believability
IOA #trustandbelieve
The extent to which the data is trustworthy and reliable, such as IOA data.
Calibration
Comparison of the data with the true value or a known standard value, and using this information to correct the measurement system used.
Continuous Measurement
Count, Duration, Rate, latency, IRT
Measurement of data that gives you every single instance of that behavior.
Direct Measurement
The observer is physically looking at the behavior.
Discontinuous Measurement
MTS, Partial Interval Recording, Whole Interval Recording.
Measurement of data at a moment in time.
Exact Count Per Interval IOA
Type of IOA where we count the intervals that are in agreement and divide by total number of intervals. Strictest IOA.
Indirect Measurement
Parent interviews, checklists,
Measurement where the observer is not physically looking at the behavior.
IOA
Two or more observers collect data on a behavior to confirm that their observations are the same/ congruent.
Interval by interval IOA
Type of IOA where we count the number of trials in agreement, and then divide by the total number of trials.
Mean count per interval IOA
Type of IOA where we take the mean of each interval, and divide by the total number of intervals.
Mean duration per occurrence IOA
Most Precise type of IOA, where we find the mean for each trial and then divide it by the total number of trials.
Measurement bias
An effect on the data due to the environment and the observer.
Naive observer
Observer who is unaware of the purpose or conditions of a study, so that they are less likely to be influenced by expectations.
Observed value
The Data
A measure produced by observation and a measurement system.
