3- Operational Definitions/ Target Behaviors Flashcards
ABC Recording
Observation tool used to note what happens before a behavior, the behavior, and the consequences that occur after a behavior.
A-Antecedent
B-Behavior
C-Consequence
Anecdotal Observation
aka ABC recording
Direct, continuous observation where the observer records the behavior and what is occurring in the natural environment of the behavior.
Behavior Checklist
A list with specific skills, and the conditions for which each skill should be observed. Most use a likert scale to rate responses.
Behavioral Assessment
Assessment involving direct and indirect observations, to identify and define the target behavior, and collect information/ data that will improve the efficiency of an intervention.
Behavioral Cusp
a whole new world
A behavior change that results in the person being able to explore their environment in a completely different way.
Ecological Assessment
Assessment method to collect data across settings or people, and acknowledges interrelationship between environment and behavior.
Function Based Definition
A group of responses that have the same function, but they may look differently.
Habilitation
adjustment
Occurs when all reinforcers are maximized and all punishers are minimized to change a person’s repertoire.
Normalization
A philosophy or principle that people with disabilities should be exposed physically and socially to mainstream or “normal” environments.
Pivotal Behaviot
A behavior that when it is learned, it transfers skills to other untrained behaviors.
Reactivity
clicker
Effects of the observation on the behavior.
Relevance of Behavior Rule
Only behaviors that are likely to produce reinforcement in the person’s natural environment, should be targeted for change.
Social Validity
Ensuring that important and significant change is being shaped for target behaviors, intervention procedures, and outcomes.
Target Behavior
DV
The response class selected for intervention.
Topography Based Definition
Defines instances of the targeted response class by the shape or form of the behavior.
