Dry roughages
High in cellulose, hemicellulose, and possibly lignin, low in carbohydrates such as starches and sugars
Pasture and range plants
Green forages with 15-90% moisture
Ensiled roughages
Silages and bale age, where whole plant material is ensiled under aerobic conditions in a silo
Forage
Fiber containing feeds, such as grass, hay, or pasture, contains at least 18% fiber, but have high digestible energy
Roughage
A bulky feed with low weight per unit volume, contains at least 18% fiber but can range up to 50%
Energy feeds
High starch and high energy, cereal grains
Protein sources
Plant sources: Soybean meal and cottonseed meal
Animal sources: Fishmeal, dried skim milk, tankage
Non-nutritive additives
Any compound added to the diet for reasons other than to supply nutrients
What makes up most of broiler diet?
Corn –> 50%
