What kingdoms formed the Crown of Aragón? And explain how they work.
This crown was formed by 4 kingdoms: Aragón, Catalonia, Mallorca and Valencia.
Each one had its OWN laws and institutions. The only thing in common KING.
Name and explain the several institutions of the Crown of Aragón
In this crown, the king didn’t impose laws, so, he tried to negotiate with Cortes doing pacts–> PACTISMO.
INSTITUTIONS:
- ROYAL COURT: King + Advisors to take decisions and govern.
- VICEROY: King’s representative in each kingdom.
- CORTES: One in each kingdom. To approve laws and taxes.
- GENERALIDAD: Permanent commission of Cortes of each kingdom.
Explain the commercial dynamism in the Crown of Aragón
Agriculture and livestock farming were crucial. BUT trade was the most important economic activity led by the bourgeoisie–> Clothes
Explain the growth of the Bourgeoisie
Nobility and clergy were the privileged groups but the bourgeoisie also demanded a more important role, according to its economic power. In Barcelona, the bourgeoisie could take part in the government of the city in the city hall.
Explain the Mediterranean expansion.
The expansion was possible thanks to the bourgeoisie, which financed it because they wanted to establish it in more places.
New conquest: Sicily/Sardinia/Atensh and Neopatria/Naples
To make it possible, they organised armed fleets as the almogavars (soldiers from the Pyrinean Valleys)
