A

There was a unification between León + Castile, and they formed the Crown of Castile and it was the largest and strongest kingdom.

Explain the Government of the kingdoms.

A
  1. MONARCHY: King has FULL of powers. Amount them the 2 important: Raise armies and collect taxes.
  2. CORTES: A group of people from the nobility, clergy and bourgeoisie that was considered a representation of the kingdom. MAIN FUNCTION: To approve taxes.
  3. MUNICIPAL COUNCILS: Ruled the cities and towns (Ayuntamiento). The people were called “regidores”. The king choose “corregidores” to make people obey him

Explain the livestock farming economy in the Crown of Castile

A

Agriculture was very important: grapevines, cereals, olive trees…
-Merino sheep farming: High-Quality wool. Sheep were owned by nobles and protected by the Mesta, created in 1237.

A

14th C: 4 million people. Society was divided into privileged and non-privileged people.
Also, we have minorities: Jews and Muslims.

Explain the functions of the Cortes

A

Cortes were assembles formed by nobles, clergy and bourgeoisie that represent the kingdom. They were held in no fixed location.

Cortes approved taxes but before it, they presented complaints to the kings. If he agreed with them, taxes will be approved but if not….problems.
