4b. Multitrauma Rib and Sternum Views & Positioning Flashcards
what are the clinical indications for posterior oblique rib view
rib pathologies
and neoplastic processes
what are the clinical indications for lateral sternum view
sternum pathologies
(depressed sternal #) and inflammatory processes
what is the patient position for posterior oblique rib views
in terms of side facing IR, affected side position and arm position
erect/supine
back against IR, affected side rotated 30-45* towards IR and arm on affected side abducted
what is the patient position for lateral sternum view
in terms of MSP and IR relation, shoulders and sternum relation with IR
erect with MSP parallel to IR
shoulders back and align long axis of sternum with IR
what is the CR and CP for posterior oblique rib views
hori ray to T7
what is the CR and CP for lateral sternum view
perp to IR midway betw sternal notch and xiphisternum
what is the position critique for posterior oblique ribs view
what shows you have a good 45 degree angle
good angle 45* = axillary ribs in profile with spine shifted away from area of interest
what is the position critique for lateral sternum view
what shows no rotation
no rotation = no superimposition of humerus, shoulder, sternum soft tissue
no superimposition of ribs
what is the area critique for posterior oblique ribs view
axillary ribs 1-9 above diaphragm (upper ribs)
entire length of ribs collimated to side of interest
what is the area critique for lateral sternum view
entire sternum
what is the exposure critique for posterior oblique ribs view
visualize ribs through lung/heart shadow
what is the SID for lateral sternum view
150-180cm
