Rebranding invilves making changes to a place to alter perceptions about it
What does reimaging involve
Reimaging involves changing an areas image from undesiravle to desirable
-An area may be sold with new packaging to attract investors
-It might be as simple as changing the name of the place e.g saigon -> ho chi minh 1976
What must rebranding strategies have to be succesful
- To be succesful rebranding stratergies must have
- Regeneration (investment)
- reimaging ( advertsiing that contributes to help to change peoples impression about a place)
What is the aim overall of rebranding
Overall the aim is to sell the place to customers so the scheme will vary depending on target group or subgroup
-Media and marketing play a big role in changing the reputation of a place e.g tenby - stag dos
How may rebranding vary between urban and rural areas
- In UK place identity often forms a major part of a rebranding scheme
- In urban areas this is likely to mean they take advantage of industrial heritage to encourage tourism
- In rural areasbthus may involve literary, historical and cultural associations
How has the titanic quater Belfast been rebranded
- The titanic quater has been foccused around the harland and wolff shipyards, famous for building the titanic
- it is one of europes largest waterfront developments, compromising of historic maritime features
- It includes post modern achutecture ane buildings e.g the visitor centre in the shapenof the bow of the titanic
- It includes the historic lifting cranes as a sign of industrial hertiagw
- The old white star logo has been incorporated into the design
- Growth is only expected to continue with the renovation of a 4,9 million pound hotel
- Overall belfast has exploited its industrial history in order to help it regenrate
What have the positives of the rebranding been
- The titanic visitor centre in belfast attracted one million visitors in the first year (70% international)
- It has added £105 million a year in extra income and 895 new jobs
- It has enabled people to move past the troubels hindering investment
- It has recieved investment from TNCs such as premier inn and audi
- It has become the site of belfast metropolitan college and northern ireland science park
Describe bronte country
Bronte country is the pennine region that inspired the bronte sisters ( originalky from hanworth) due to its distinctive landscape
-It is where they wrote jane eyre and wuthering heights
What has been used specifically in the area to help it regenrate
- The fair trade way has been used which links villages and historical sites to encourage visitors - it crosses through bronte country
- Other attractions include keliegh bus museum and worth valley railway
- The UNESCO world heritage site of saltaire is also local
- The pennine bridleway and other outdoor activities are encouraging investment
What have some farms in the area done to encourage growth
-Some farms in the area have taken advantage of EU grants and funding for diversification e.g skipbridge farm is a succesful wedding venue
