Ex. Language, religion, ethnicity

Ethnographic
Straight line or arc drawn by people that does not closely follow a physical feature
Geometric Boundary
Without territory connected to an ocean
Landlocked States
Heavily guarded and discourages crossing
Militarized boundary
Unguarded and people can cross easily with little to no political intervention
Open boundary
Division that uses already-existing natural features that divide a territory such as rivers, deserts or mountains
Physical consequent boundary
Natural barriers between areas, such as oceans, deserts or mountains
Ex. Missouri River, Himalayas
Physical geographic boundaries
Boundary that has been abandoned but still provides part of the cultural landscape
Relic boundary
Created while the cultural landscape is evolving and is subject to change
Subsequent Boundary
Drawn by outside powers and may have ignored previous cultural patterns
Superimposed Boundary
