SCENE SAFETY
Pre-arrival
If dispatch information indicates the possibility of violent or criminal activity at the scene, confirm law enforcement is en-route/on-scene.
Size-Up

Crime Scene Protection
To keep from altering or destroying evidence (tire tracks, footprints, etc.):
JFRD vehicles should be kept on the ____, driveway, or other ___ surface, if possible

Firearms
Firearms and weapons are not to be moved unless they jeopardize personal safety or patient care. If movement of a weapon is necessary, move it to a safe location but do not otherwise “clear” or manipulate the weapon or ammunition.
In all cases, weapons must be safeguarded by law enforcement. The Company Officer will document the law enforcement officer’s ___, ___, and __ ___. This information must be entered into the ____ ___.
Patient Care
If victims require treatment, the following guidelines must be followed to preserve evidence:
1. Clothing – Bullet and stab holes shall not be used as starting points for cutting off clothing. Cut along seams if possible. Turn any clothing or personal property removed over to law enforcement.
2. Metal Displacement – Try to keep metal displacement on vehicles or machinery to a minimum, moving only what is necessary for the safety of the patient and JFRD personnel.
3. Movement of Deceased – May be necessary in order to gain access to injured victims. Movement should be limited to that necessary to provide for patient care.
In cases of assault, attempted murder, or other violent crime, ask the patient to identify their attacker(s). This provides two advantages:
1. Alerts personnel if the suspect is still on the scene and prompts awareness if they return.
2. Assists law enforcement personnel if the patient expires before being interviewed.
3. Statements made to EMS personnel are considered ____. This information should be documented and provided to law enforcement.
