4.2.5.2 Electric Fields Flashcards
What does a charged object create around itself?
an electric field
What is an electric field?
a region where a force acts on a charged particle
Where is an electric field the strongest?
- the electric field is strongest closest to the charged object
What does a second object placed in an electric field experience?
experiences a force - the force gets stronger as the distance between the objects decreases
How must field lines be drawn?
must be at right angles to the surface
Field lines on a positively charged object:
a positively charged object has field lines moving away from it
Field lines on a negatively charged object:
a negative charged object has field lines moving towards it
Where is an electric field weaker?
- the further away from the object, the weaker the field
What happens when a second charged object is put in a field and where do the thing it experiences get stronger?
- a second charged object placed in an electric field experiences a force - the force gets stronger as the distance between the objects decreases
What does how close together the field lines are show?
the closer together the field lines are the stronger the electric field
