4.2.1 biological approach Flashcards
biological approach
examines the processes that occur and looks for how that may affect an individual
basic assumptions
behaviour is affected by:
- genetics- genes an individual influences their behaviours.
- CNS- brain is seen as the main focus of explaining behaviour as its seen as the origin of how the world is seen
- chemistry of the body
genotype
genetic make up of an individual and provides the genetic code for how that individual will develop
dictates characteristics such as eye and natural hair colour
phenotype
product of what happens when the genotype interacts with the environment
biological structures- nervous system
divided into 2 structures- peripheral and central
central nervous system
consists of the brain and the spinal chord
pivotal in transferring messages to and from the environment
act as the centre from which all of the physiology of the individual is controlled
peripheral nervous system
sends and receives information to the central nervous system
nervous system for limbs and torso which collect information from the environment in terms of temperature, pain and threat.
has 2 parts to it- autonomic and somatic
autonomic nervous system
important for survival of the individual and affects the reaction to threat, along with returning the body to normal after an acute reaction
somatic system
comprises the muscles attached to the skeleton and is therefore very important in movement
neurochemistry
the biochemistry of the central nervous system
