4.2 - plant reproduction and growth Flashcards
Sexual reproduction in angiosperms
Angiosperms use seeds to reproduce, angiospersm prodice flowers that have both male and female parts
- the ovaries of a fertalized flower dvelop into a fruit where the seeds are housed
- the fruit protects the seed and help disperse the seed
Sexual reproduction in gymnosperms
- gymonosperms have no fruit or flowers
- -their seeds are dveloped in cone like strutures such as pinecones
- the pinecones have scales which can protect the seed and eventually open it to depost the seed when the conditions are right
Angiosperm reproduction
the male parts proeduce..
- pollen. they produce pollen
- pollen produces sperm
- sperm cells stick onto the stigma and travels dwown to the style to the ovary where fertalizition occurs this makes seeds
ways flowers can fertalize
- self pollination
- bee pollination
- pollen carried by thr wind from other plants
what is a monocot?
Angiosperm with seeds that contain embryotic leaf or cotyeldons
Dicot
dicot
Angiosperm with seeds that contain 2 embryotic leaves
tropism
plants response to touch
Plant hornone gibberuins
Growth hormones that stimulate rapid increase in size
- makes stems lomger
- plays a role in flowering and fruit ripening
plant hormone cytokinis
promotes cell divisoin and anti aging in leaves and fruits
auxins
elongate cells in the plants
Ethylene
gas promoting ripening of fruits known as the riping and death hormone
Absartic
asborsic acid
inhibits shoots and leaf growth
closes stomatato prevent water loss
phototropism
the tendancy to bend towards the light
thigmotropism
thigmotropism
plants respomse tp touch, plant grows around a fence or any object
grow
growth limiting facters
-temperture
humidity
nutrients
nitrogen is needed to make chrolophyll and dna
light
carbon dioxcide
