4.2 Physical And Human Processes Flashcards
1) Compare the weathering that is found in the uplands and the lowlands
Highland weathering - freeze thaw weathering which freezes water in the crack and expands.
Lowlands weathering - more warmer conditions (more greenery at the bottom)
2)compare the soil/rock movement processes in the upland and the lowlands
Uplands have more freeze thaw sue to the weather up in the uplands
Lowlands more of attrition.
3)Compare misfit rivers and dry valleys (location, characteristics, formation)
Misfit rivers are valleys that feature a river that could not have possibly eroded the whole valley they are located on the uplands and were formed by a glacier during the ice age.
Dry valleys are areas that used to have a river which is now underground they are located in the lowlands and are formed when ice in the rock melts transforming it from an impermeable rock to a permeable rock, meaning that water can now flow through the rock, rather that over the land.
4) explain how glaciers have effected both landscape
Lowlands could be flooded and the highlands could get more colder so more weathering could take place.
5) explain two ways humans have affected the Upland landscape
Air pollution or tourist attractions.
6) Explain two ways humans have affected the lowland landscape
Agriculture, farming etc
7) compare which landscape (up/low) have been affected more by humans
Possibly lowland seeing we are on the ground and agriculture is a huge thing in our lives
